A rather good film, a cross (sort of) between Kathy Acker's 'Blood and Guts in High School' and Ken Loach's Plays for today on the Beeb back in the 60's 'Cathy Come Home' and 'Up the Junction'
Good debut by Sidibe but it was the wicked witch mother played by Mary Lee Johnson that was totally convincing. The good teacher was just too attractive to be believable and a surprising cameo by Mariah Carey as the social worker.
